General and Laparoscopic Surgery
General Surgery deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, by means of surgical or potentially surgical procedures, both elective and emergency, which may be of benign, inflammatory, traumatic or neoplastic origin. Such diseases may affect the digestive tract, abdominal wall, endocrine system, breast, skin and soft tissue, retro peritoneum, and external head and neck conditions.
Laparoscopic surgery is a surgical technique that is performed through small incisions, using the support of a video camera that allows the physician to see the surgical field inside the patient and act on it. It is a minimally invasive technique, as it avoids the large cuts made in open surgeries. Therefore, the post-operative period is much faster and more comfortable, which allows the patient to have a shorter hospitalization time and a faster recovery.
